The paintings of Texas native Downe Burns reflect not only his immense
talent, but also his passion for painting. He says, "I love to
paint. I love miximng the colors and seeing the end result on the
canvas or paper. I like signing my name to a painting and being
happy with the way I have interpreted the world around me." Largely
a self-taught artist, Burns studied business and art history at
Texas Tech University for a brief time then began painting full
time. In the early 1980's, Burns moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico,
where he became enchanted by the natural environs, incorporating the
indigenous saguaro cacti in many of his earlier pieces. Burns'
oeuvre includes landscapes, floral, and abstract pieces. He employs
a unique compositional technique and unforgettable color palette.
Burns hopes his paintings will inspire a positive emotive experience
in the viewer. Burns currently resides in Lubbock, Texas with
his wife and the three children. He spends much of his time in his
studio working on two new series of paintings, "Old Ways" and "Live
to be Still." Burns has painted works commissioned by Kahlua
Liqueur, Marlboro, Sonoma Valley Vineyards, Anderson Valley
Vineyards, Vitality Magazine, Kodak International Balloon Fiesta,
and ESPN. His work has also appeared on the sets of such television
programs as Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210, and Promised Land.
